F*** The Beatles: What New Music Are You Listening To?
The new releases that are wearing a hole in my iPod are The Flaming Lips "AT WAR WITH THE MYSTICS" (Review) and My Morning Jacket "Z", an album that I can only describe as groovy, in the best sense.
What new music are you listening to?

10 Comments:
FROM A COMPOUND EYE Robert Pollard
BRAKES Give Blood
FLAT PACK PHILOSOPHY Buzzcocks
HELP ME I WORK IN AN OFFICE Semion
ALOHA FROM HOLLOWAY Priscillas ep
and for garage rock lovers:
PRETTY IN BLACK Raveonettes
SOUL-SIZZLING 7" MELTDOWN Woggles (going back to '03 release for that one - I mention it because they do a mucho fun live show)
the new NY DOLLS album - only heard it once on Sirius but it sounded pretty solid
Slag, I've seen My Morning Jacket live and liked their first album (it was good and Neil Youngesque though limited - I've heard their subsequent albums are better so I'll splurge.)
Actually don't know much Flaming Lips (told you I was a novice.) I'll have to check them out too.
I also want to get the new Ray Davies album. I think Smelly says it's awesome. What I've heard on Sirius is excellent.
Outstanding live shows this year:
Robert Pollard - Irving Plaza NY
Buzzcocks - Irving Plaza NY
Teenage Fanclub - Forum London
The Priscillas - Truck Festival South Oxfordshire, and Paris France
Stalwart - if there is anything I can recommend for you it's the Flaming Lips. I only just discovered them myself when they a did a set on Austin City Limits just before relaeasing a new album in May. But I honestly thought of you when I saw them, they have your sense of humor. Do yourself a favor and pick up either "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" or "The Soft Bulletin" to start out with. I'll pay you for the CDs if you don't love them.
By the way, they are at Hamerstein Ballroom 9/24 and 9/25 if you are interested. They are a complete goof live, from what I have heard and seen on TV.
I've got tickets to that Lips show at the HB, myself and I can hardly wait!
As for what's in heavy rotation at La Caliente Casa del Havens:
Wolfmother, "Wolfmother" Because they are young and cute and have a Zeppliney vibe from 30 years ago.
The Arctic Monkeys, "Whatever people Say I am, That's What I'm Not" Because they are young and cute and sound like nothing recorded prior to five years ago.
Dengue Fever, "Escape From Dragon House" Because I can't get enough Cambodia Psychedelica. Really, can anyone?
And I loves me that Gnarls Barkley. I think they are just whacky.
KT Tunstall is playing in my ipod alot these days as well as The Reverend Horton Heat. The new Sun Volt is good too. Dashboard confessional, the killers, godsmack
Slag, you thought of me when you saw flaming lips? I thought of you when I saw Brokeback Mountain...in a good way.
I wish I knew how to quit you.
My Morning Jacket was on Austin City Limits tonight with Death Cab for Cutie. They were great. I think the show replays during the week.
Stalwart's comment about Ray Davies' new album got me thinking about my favorite Kinks' song "Waterloo Sunset."
The song, a beautiful ballad, tells the story of a man watching a couple in Waterloo Station.
I had the chance to visit London twice last year and Waterloo Station was the departure point for our "Chunnel" train trip to Paris. I was assured by many fellow travelers that the the French found no humor in the fact that the channel tunnel train from Paris terminates at Waterloo Station (which memorializes the Duke of Wellington's victory over Napoleon in 1815).
A London FM radio poll in 2004 named "Waterloo Sunset" the "Greatest Song About London," my favorite city (after our own beloved New York).
Consider this post about new music officially tangetialized.
