Why aren't more people ranting?! <--that's my rant. Here's another: Our national moral fabric has been tainted by the egregious wantonness of the Democrats and their liberal brethren.
The new appearance is temporary. We had problems with the display of the Contributors and Links in the right margin (it was being pushed far down to the bottom and out of view to those using Internet Explorer). Working on a solution over time. So please, no rants about the appearance.
Now that we're an "International" Online Journal, how can we NOT cover politics? That said, I agree The Hubbub should be a politics-free blog. My initial rant was based on a pick-up line I used to use at bars in the early 1990s: "Do you think our national moral fabric has been tainted by the egregious wantonness of the 1980s?" It sometimes begat conversation. I threw in that bit about the Democrats to create some fireworks and to ensure we did, in fact, get some ranting going on the inaugural of the Friday Rant.
Oh CJM! Please to give me your phone number! I am a lonely Russian co-ed at NYU and I need to hear more of your sexy thoughts on American capitalism and gluttony! And I am naked under my clothes, yes?!
As an aside, I also used to parrot some of Steve Martin's pick-up line routine, just out of curiosity. Lines like: "Hey, where'd you get those shoes? and "That's a very nice print dress you're wearing." All of these were used at my favorite bar/restaurant at that time, Live Bait (on the south side of 23rd Street where Madison Avenue ends). The latter actually worked once and I ended up going on a date, which led to two more dates, and then, curiously, no more returned phone calls after that. This is all true. Her name was Rebecca Rand, and months later I bumped into her, of all places, at the public library. We whispered awkward hellos to each other.
Speaking of... My wife - and your sister-in-law Mr. "the-yak" - would not dance with me the first time I met her at O'Flanagan's (1st Ave betw 65th & 66th) on Friday, December 20, 1991. Luckily I didn't comment on her pants, but I did dance with some of her friends sitting at her table, a potential faux pas. Eventually and exactly five years later, as you well know, we got married on Friday, December 20, 1996.

I just want to extend my congratulations to The Hubbub team for coming up with this clever weekly gimmick.

The weather really sucks. Rain and thunderstorms all weekend long. I blame the Democrats.
I'm hungry, I've no food in the house and it's really raining hard outside. Someone get me a sandwich, stat!
I was going to complain about the new look too. But now I understand so I'll just say that the green looks like baby crap.
And would you tell the Neocon Moral Minority there to stop with the politics. I thought this was for fun.

What's that sound? It's the sound of panties hitting the floor in six continents after just reading that pickup line.
